The Intellectual Property Research Center was founded in July 2019, affiliated to Yunnan Provincial Institute of Intellectual Property Development established in 2010. At present, the center is the office of Yunnan Provincial Institute of Intellectual Property Development. The former Yunnan Provincial Institute of Intellectual Property Development have carried out a lot of work in intellectual property management, technology transformation, intellectual property research and intellectual property personnel training of Kunming University of Science and Technology, which have laid a solid foundation for the establishment and development of the center.

The center is mainly responsible for personnel training for the master’s degree in the secondary discipline of “Intellectual Property and Technological Innovation”, and participates in the cultivation of the master’s degree in civil and commercial law and quality law,  undertakes the teaching of intellectual property related courses for undergraduates and undergraduates of Law School, and it is responsible for the management of Yunnan intellectual property personnel training base and in charge of the personnel training commissioned by the State Intellectual Property Office and Intellectual Property Office of Yunnan Province. Besides, it is responsible for the management of Intellectual Property Trading Service Center of Yunnan Province, national patent documentation service network and other professional platforms.

The center currently owns a team of teachers and scientific research groups with high academic level and strong practical ability, with a total of 6 people. Among them, there are 2 professors, 2 associate professors, four people have obtained doctoral degrees in law, management or engineering, and two have obtained master’s degree; and there are 2 people have obtained patent agency qualification, 2 national intellectual property senior professionals, and 1 national patent information leader. There are 3 leading intellectuals in Yunnan Province, 2 high-level professionals and 1 practical professional. They formed the most powerful team of teachers and experts in the field of intellectual property rights in Yunnan, and provided sufficient guarantee for the construction of this discipline.

The center has carried out a large number of academic research, personnel training and teaching practice in the field of intellectual property, forming a comprehensive system of academic research, personnel training and intellectual property discipline. The center will apply for the record of the master’s degree in the second-level discipline of intellectual property law at an appropriate time.
